Chick Pea Salad Recalled Due To Listeria Scare

Comments Off

Potential Listeria monocytogene contamination has prompted NY Gourmet Salads, Inc., to initiate a recall of 60 pounds of its 5 pound tubs of Chick Pea Salad.

The recalled salad is packaged in 5 pound hard plastic containers with a white label and black lettering with "EXP. Date: 04/07/10". To date, no illnesses have been confirmed; however, the effects of food borne contaminants are not always immediately identifiable.

The recall is the result of sampling by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Listeria monocytogenes can cause symptoms that appear similar to flu and may include headache, stiffness, a high fever, and nausea. This type of bacterial contamination is particularly dangerous for pregnant women and can cause stillbirth and miscarriage.

Consumers who have any of the potentially contaminated Chick Pea Salad should return it to the store of purchase for a refund. For more information, call the company directly at (718) 765-0082.
